Friday 5th of April was a day we had all been waiting for. Having planned for the launch of ‘KIN for months, neither of us could sleep the night before.

Nervous excitement filled the air as we began to set up that sunny morning. Tucked away in Bangsar’s Jalan Bangkung was Alta café – our chosen location for the launch. With its understatedly cool décor and quiet location, the café was exactly what we were going for; casual and intimate, therefore allowing us to meet everyone and chat about ‘KIN. And we did quite a bit of that when the doors opened for sales at 12pm and customers started pouring in to try on and purchase earrings from our debut Hoops Collection.

Born out of a desire to cater to a new generation of jewellery lovers, we envisioned ‘KIN to be a haven from the stuffiness and pretension of the typical jewellery shopping experience. Before this, all that was available to the Malaysian market were either costly fine jewellery or trendy costume jewellery that’s inferior in quality. Our aim is to present beautifully made, stylish yet timeless accessories that will last for the modern everyday woman, yet won’t break the bank.

Which is why we decided to launch with our lightweight Hoops Collection. A must-have piece of jewellery, hoops are to accessories what an LBD is to a woman’s wardrobe: timeless and essential. Made using 925 Sterling Silver, finished with Rhodium or 18k Gold Vermeil, every ‘KIN piece is crafted to last years – you can even pass it to your next-of-‘KIN to continue enjoying them.

Special thanks goes out to our family and friends and even their kids (we call them our ‘KINterns) who played a huge role with helping us with set up, ringing in orders and packing hoops for customers, and just making the overall event a great fun. By the time we wrapped up and the final sale of the day was rung at 8pm, these mamas were ready to head back to their other kin – the ones in human form.
